Glucosamine Can Decrease Risk of Osteoarthritis
Press Release - October 17, 2011
Addressing Joint Health has kept the pharmaceutical industry busy in recent years. The global market for glucosamine alone is forecasted to reach 46 thousand metric tons in five years. Increased longevity of life, rising incidence of arthritis, and increased awareness about supplements are driving the market. Glucosamine has clinical research backing its effectiveness in the ability to rebuild damaged joint structures. The popularity of the ingredient is highlighted by the fact that glucosamine consists of more than 50% of all joint health supplements. Dietary supplements with glucosamine help in maintaining joint casings, cartilage, joint fluid and tendons. The supplement also renews synovial fluid, and helps in treating sports injuries. Some research indicates it can reduce osteoarthritis progression by more than 50%.

Recent studies are focusing on preserving healthy joints in patients who may be considered at risk of developing joint problems. Dr. Kristine Clark, Director of sports nutrition at Penn State University announced at the ADA conference last week that osteoarthritis affects more than 30 million Americans. Not everyone with this deleterious condition gets relief from glucosamine. Because of this, research has turned towards maintaining joint health instead. There is a shift in thinking about glucosamine treating pain and inflammation, to something that could support joint health by enhancing the cellular mechanism which maintains the integrity of joint cartilage in the first place. This is exciting news for anyone with beginning signs of osteoarthritis, other joint ailments, and athletes.

Vegetarian glucosamine is becoming popular as more and more people discover its existence. For those that have shellfish allergies, or simply want to take a product containing pure quality ingredients, they now have a better choice. Like anything else, however, not all glucosamine is the same. Cargill’s REGENASURE® is the ONLY vegetarian glucosamine that is produced in the USA, holds a GRAS status (recognized as safe by the FDA), meets all pharmacopoeia and National Formulary specifications, and is Kosher certified.

The NutraSense Company in Lenexa, KS carries REGENASURE® in two forms, either by itself in their Glucosamine-ES (extra strength), or combined with chondroitin. In business since 1995, these two nutritional supplements remain top sellers for loyal customers nationwide. Sales have increased in recent years too due to the Buy American trend we’re seeing. Knowing where each ingredient is sourced and that it’s manufactured in the U.S. under strict regulations is an enormous advantage. Produced without the contaminants, environmental impact, and seasonality related to the production and sourcing of shellfish-derived glucosamine is another advantage.
