Multiple Benefits of Probiotics
Probiotics, often added to various foods such as yogurt, have fast become among the most popular natural supplements consumers can use to sustain a healthy lifestyle by regulating immune support and managing disease. A healthy intestine is one that maintains a critical balance between the friendly and the harmful bacteria.

Probiotics are offered in different strains of live cultures, defined by genus and species,  and appear in an assortment of different delivery systems. The common thread  here… EVERYBODY can benefit from them.Dr. Shahanni's Pro Flora Probiotics

Many studies have been done with successful results on subjects from healthy adults, those with chronic illnesses, to infants. Probiotic bacteria must survive digestion and reach the intestinal tract in order to work. Microorganisms that fail to complete the journey will have little chance at providing any desired health benefits. One strain of probiotics most commonly found to benefit as a nutritional supplement is Lactobacillus Acidophillus. This is the strain that predominates in the small intestine. Bifidobacterium bifidum colonizes in large numbers in the large intestine and colon. The combination of these two strains work together to maintain the best possible health and protection for the digestive system in children and in adults.

The NutraSense Company carries a Children’s Chewable tablet containing these two strains from Nebraska Cultures. This product, Dr. Shahani’s Pro-Flora, contains 750 million live organisms (CFU), or colony forming units. These great tasting raspberry flavored  chewables are perfect for children and for adults not keen on swallowing capsules. Clinical research shows that not only are probiotics great for normalizing your digestive tract and thus your overall health, but claim a variety of other health benefits including:

  • Helps digest proteins and carbohydrates
  • Produces B Vitamins and folic acid (essential for fetal development)
  • Produces enzymes that help reduce lactose intolerance
  • Produces natural beneficial acids that help digest food and fight infections
  • Helps the body to absorb calcium
  • Inhibits multiplication of cancerous cells
  • Produces natural antibiotic-like substances that kill pathogenic bacteria
  • Suppress bad bacteria, in turn reducing: yeast infections, skin problems, bad breath, constipation, diarrhea, gas, stomach ulcers

Another very impressive claim probiotics can provide is that they help to control IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) symptoms such as abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, constipation and bloating. IBS is untreatable, yet manageable. Roughly 15 to 30 million people in the U.S. suffer from this disease. Other research studies report that probiotics reduce the incidence of acquiring the common cold by 12%, and reducing the risk of getting infections in children and infants.  There is even a new product soon to be on the market in which probiotics are applied to a pacifier! Brilliant!

In addition to Dr. Shahani’s Pro-Flora Children’s Chewable tablets, the NutraSense Company carries a capsule form of the L. Acidophillus DDS-1 strain from Nebraska Cultures. These Dr. Shahani’s Probiotic capsules contain 2.5 billion CFU and were developed over four decades of research by one of the industry’s most respected names, Dr. Khem Shahani himself. Shahani began researching different strains of probiotics in the late 1950’s at the University of Nebraska. There he discovered this strain of L. Acidophilus that showed superior growth, stability and nutritional value. Since this time, Dr. Shahani and his family at Nebraska Cultures have dedicated their lives to probiotic research, increasing consumer awareness, and growing business both in the U.S. and overseas.
